5 Steps to Choosing a Real Estate Agent

Choosing a real estate agent can be tough. There are a lot to choose from, but that doesn’t always make it easy to find someone to work with.

Real estate transactions are a big deal. This is a lot of your money, and you want to make sure you’re working with someone you can trust to make sure you’re getting the best value possible.

Whether you’re buying or selling, working with the best realtors can make all of the difference.

1. Check Their Knowledge of the Area

The best real estate agents have a strong knowledge of the area and are constantly up to date on the local market trends. For example, many Niagara realtors know the area like the back of their hand- not just one city, but the entire region. They know exactly which neighbourhoods will suit your needs, and where to find those hidden gems.

This is an important element because you want to make sure you are choosing to live in a neighbourhood or area that you will be happy with. Additionally, sometimes you could save a lot of money simply by moving one neighbourhood over.

There could be a neighbourhood you haven’t discovered yet that’s calling your name. Without a knowledgeable realtor, you’ll never find it.

2. Do They Make You Feel Comfortable?

Buying or selling a home is a major decision, and you should always feel comfortable and confident with your choices. A good real estate agent will make sure you are fully aware of every step of the process, and provide you with expert advice along the way. If you find yourself second guessing something and don’t get a clear answer, that’s a red flag.

3. Look at Their Online Presence

Check out their social media pages and their website. Does it look like they keep up with these appearances? This is a sign that they are putting in the effort to stay relevant and on top of the market. Many good real estate agents will post their listings on their social media platforms as well.

In today’s world, the Internet is an important place. It’s where most people start their real estate search, and it’s the first place people look when determining which houses to tour. If your realtor isn’t up to date, you could be missing out on a market of potential buyers or sellers.

4. Check Their Testimonials

Good real estate agents have happy, satisfied clients who are more than willing to provide recommendations to others. These days, word of mouth goes a long way. Check their website for testimonials, and look at their Google Reviews to see what others are saying. If there is more good than bad, that’s a great sign.

5. Ask Them What Their Marketing Plan is

The top real estate agents have a solid plan for every single client and have strategies in place that sell homes effectively. Will they take professional video tours for you? Where will they be advertising your listing? Is staging included in their fee? Not every real estate agent provides a full range of services for their clients without an extra cost.

If they can provide you with a game plan, this is a strong indicator that they’ll go the extra mile for you and put in the effort to make sure you get the best deal possible.
